Samsung Galaxy SIV to come withwireless chargingsupport: Report
Android Authority reports via Koreannews site DDaily that Samsung Galaxy S IVwill feature support for wireless chargingbased on the Qi standard as introducedby the Wireless Power Consortium.Amongst Android devices, currently onlythe Nexus 4 is compatible with the Qiwireless charging standard, though thecharging orb for the smartphone isn'tcommercially available yet.
Nokia has also adopted the feature for itslatest flagship devices, the Lumia 920 and820 , that come with their own colourfulwireless charging accessories. The report states that Samsung plans onusing an alternate technology based onresonant magnetic coupling that isdifferent from the electromagneticinduction found in the current wirelesschargers. It also states that the Galaxy SIV will not come integrated with wirelesscharging compatibility, but will rather sellthe charger and a backplate which isrequired to enable wireless chargingseparately.
The reason Samsung is using resonantmagnetic coupling is that, at least intheory, it would allow the Galaxy S IV tobe charged from a distance of up to 2meters. In comparison, othersmartphones that have wireless chargingsupport right now require to be placed ata distance of no more than 4cm awayfrom a charging pad.
But DDaily also states that Samsung hasreportedly developed a wireless chargerbased on magnetic resonance, but feelsthat it would be to expensive in themarket and hence has ultimately decidedto stick with the more standard wirelesscharging method.
At the moment, there are no officialdetails on the wireless chargingaccessories or when Samsung is planningto unveil the Galaxy S IV. With MWCtaking place next month, it would begreat to see a glimpse of the device eventhough it won't be available till the laterhalf of the year.
As far as rumoured specs on the Galaxy SIV go, the device is being developedunder Project J and will indeed come witha 4.99-inch Super AMOLED display withfull-HD resolution, giving it a pixel densityof 441ppi.
It is also likely to feature a 13-megapixelrear auto-focus camera and a slightlythicker, 9.2mm body. Additionally, murmurs are that the new SamsungAndroid flagship will run on Jelly Bean andis likely to feature the company's latestExynos 5 Octa eight-core processorunveiled at CES. The new SoC will bemanufactured using a 28nm process asopposed to the 32nm process used bythe Exynos 5 Dual, hence claiming to bemore power-efficient.
More recent speculations suggest that theGalaxy S IV is the first smartphone in theseries to come with the famed S-Penstylus as seen in it's 5-inch phablets theGalaxy Note and Note II. The stylus asthe Korean manufacturer seeks to "uniteits Note series with the flagship Galaxy SIV", allegedly confirmed by a quote from aSamsung official.
